Resumo

From a sample of 810 bachelor students, two groups with social phobia and a control group with low anxiety were obtained. Only one group with social phobia received therapy. Before and after therapy to this group all participants were tested in affective priming studies to test for cognitive bias to stressful words. After clinical intervention the treatment group showed no social anxiety whereas the other phobic group remained the same. However, after intervention, the treatment group changed its negative cognitive bias to positive bias to stressful words. The second group without treatment changed down its negative bias to stressful words to normal. It is argued that social phobia recovery must consider emotional cognitive bias after treatment to test non desirable collateral treatment effects.
