Abstract

ABSTRACT ¿Interdisciplinary Collaborative Networks of Expatriates (ICNE) and their Role in the Innovation Capacity of the International Company¿ The economic crisis of 2008-2013 and profound transformation impelled by globalization have spawned the emergence of new network society impacted by rapidly evolving new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). In this context, innovation is understood as a tool for adaptation and strategy for a change, and its direct connection with the intellectual capital as a source of itself, according to OECD (2005). This, in its turn, serves as a source of competitive advantage for international business according to Ahuja (2000), and represents an essential value for companies. Moreover, the growing volume of expatriate populations will be cultivating and developing a new business environment every time more globalized and more competitive (Saiz- Álvarez and Sánchez - Zarza, 2013) . This research seeks to conduct a deep analysis of the relationship between the Interdisciplinary Collaborative Networks of Expatriates (ICNE) and the innovative capacity of the international company. It also investigates the role the management of the intangible resources of the expatriation and repatriation process plays in the evolution of the innovative capacity in the next ten years (Horizon 2020). The research also explores the problem of abandonment / failure of the international assignment by the expatriates which is embedded in the nature of expatriation and repatriation process and brings into play a series of motivational key aspects around this problem. Hence the idea of the evolution of Interdisciplinary Collaborative Networks of Expatriates (ICNE) over time creates the need for the development of Sustainable Optimization Model Expatriation and Repatriation Process (SOMERP) to explore the factors fostering this evolution and its impact on innovation. The model also serves as a container of the research hypotheses. The research and field work take place in the European context (between Dublin, Ireland and Spain), which allows to create the study based on the real experience of expatriation. It also looks to open new questions to cultivate new concerns and lines for further research into Interdisciplinary Collaborative Networks of Expatriates and innovative capacity of the international firm.
