Abstract

Remote sensing is a very useful tool for forest management and, especially, for silvopastoral management of natural spaces. The aim of this work was to apply remote sensing, together with photo-interpretation and field work, in order to obtain a classification and quantification of the different species of pastures located in three forests of the province of Ávila, included in the Natura 2000 Network. The classification obtained shows an assignment of the ideal cattle load throughout the year. By means of simple tools such as GIS, othophoto images have been classified using the software “PCI Geomatics”, from a supervised classification, and have been integrated in ArcGis with topographic and inventory data. Results have been favourable on contrasting the classification obtained with field inventory data and cartography.
