Resum

In recent years, the rapid development of digital technologies has shaped a digital ecosystem that is questioning traditional teaching models. In this context of digital disruption, there is a certain consensus on the need to promote a profound methodological renovation in universities based on emerging technologies and active learning methodologies. On the other hand, improved access to the Internet has favoured widespread use of social media among the population. In the educational field, their application is highly appreciated as a tool for the creation of interconnected virtual learning communities. Also as a pedagogical resource for the development of active and cooperative learning. In this context, this educational research aims to analyse the didactic potential offered by social media. To this end, it is based on the design and implementation of an intervention proposal in the field of higher education based on the creation of virtual learning communities from the use of social networks under a collaborative work approach. To achieve this objective, a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study is proposed and a survey is used as the main research technique with a purposive sample. The results obtained reveal the pedagogical potential of social media for the development of active collaborative learning. At the same time, gains are observed in terms of motivation, collective learning, critical thinking and knowledge consolidation of university students.
